BOTOX® is one of the best non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to reduce, reverse, and even prevent common signs of aging. Injections of BOTOX in St. Louis can smooth or reverse the fine lines and wrinkles associated with facial expressions. Avani Derm Spa is among the top 1% providers in the nation for Botox!

If you’re looking for smooth skin and an overall younger-looking appearance without the need for expensive and invasive medical procedures, BOTOX injections may be your answer.

What Is

BOTOX?

Approved by the FDA in 2002

and manufactured by Allergan, BOTOX® is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the nation. This popularity is primarily the result of its effectiveness at minimizing and preventing wrinkles combined with incredible convenience.

On top of that, Botox is essentially pain-free. Derived from botulinum toxin type A, it works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles responsible for wrinkles. This makes the facial muscles unable to contract in the areas causing the aging signs, allowing the muscles to relax back into an at-rest state.

To understand how BOTOX works, it’s important to understand how these stubborn lines and creases appear. Over time, the underlying facial muscles become stiff and have more and more trouble returning to an at-rest state. This causes the overlying skin to bunch and form wrinkles.

BOTOX treats the wrinkles that appear when you show facial expressions. It does not treat permanent lines that appear when the face is at rest.

Common BOTOX Treatment Areas

Below are some of the common treatment areas for BOTOX injections:

  • In the forehead to treat horizontal forehead lines
  • Between the eyebrows to treat glabellar lines (frown lines)
  • Around the eyes to treat crow’s feet
  • In the neck to treat harsh vertical neck bands
  • At the top of the nose to treat bunny lines
  • Chin area to treat chin dimples
  • Upper lip to treat gummy smile
  • Underarms to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

BOTOX can also be an effective tool to treat migraine headaches and contour the jaw/jawline.

BOTOX is not an ideal option for restoring cheek volume, treating moderate to harsh lines near the nose and mouth, or addressing undereye hollows. For these facial aging issues, consider our many injectable fillers.

The Benefits of Botox

Botox softens the patterns created by repeated muscle contractions, which can make the face look tired or stern. By relaxing these facial muscles, the face appears more open and approachable without sacrificing your natural expression.

Benefits include:

  • FDA-Approved Precision: Botox is the gold standard for temporarily improving the appearance of frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines.
  • Long-Term Prevention: Regular sessions help stop dynamic wrinkles from etching permanently into the skin over time.
  • Zero Downtime: You can return to your routine immediately after your 15-minute appointment.
  • Micro-Adjustments: Our experienced team uses specific techniques to ensure natural-looking results that look subtle, not "frozen".
  • Versatile Solutions: Beyond facial wrinkles, botulinum toxin products are used for medical purposes to address jaw tension from teeth grinding, excessive sweating, and chronic migraine.

Botox Candidates

Most adults bothered by dynamic fine lines and wrinkles are great candidates for Botox. We see a wide range of patients, from those in their 20s looking to address forehead wrinkles early to mature patients wanting to smooth out severe frown lines. A Botox consultation can help determine if this is right for you.

Safety is our priority, so there are a few disqualifications and medical conditions to consider:

  • Pregnancy & Nursing: We do not perform Botox injections if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Neuromuscular Issues: Conditions involving muscle weakness or trouble swallowing may make treatment unsuitable.
  • Allergic Reactions: A known allergy to any botulinum toxin type or the toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum is a contraindication.
  • Active Infections: We recommend waiting until the treatment area is fully healed if you have an active skin infection.

What to Consider Before BOTOX

It’s important to keep in mind that aging is a natural process that everybody undergoes.

This inevitable change can take a toll on many men and women. BOTOX is a great option for slowing those unavoidable signs of aging. There are things to consider before receiving treatment. Know your skincare goals and your expectations regarding treatment results. Remember that individual results may vary, and be realistic with aesthetic and financial goals.

What to Expect

You will have a Botox consultation with your skincare professional prior to treatment to ensure that your aesthetic goals can be achieved using BOTOX. Once your treatment starts, it takes just minutes to administer, and you will see results in as little as 3 to 4 days after treatment.

How Long Does BOTOX Last?

BOTOX is not permanent,

and everyone’s body reacts differently to injections. Lasting results vary depending on multiple factors, such as age, metabolism, and the area of injection. Younger patients with a high metabolism will need to receive treatment more often than those who are older. Over time, patients may see a lasting decrease in the depth of lines and wrinkles.

To maintain results and prevent aging, BOTOX should be administered roughly every 3-4 months.

Botox Recovery & Aftercare

There is no recovery time or downtime required after a Botox treatment session. Most patients leave the office with tiny, temporary bumps at the injection site that usually fade within a few hours.

It’s important to maintain aftercare protocols as directed, such as avoiding massaging the injection sites and not drinking alcohol for 24 hours. Most St. Louis Botox patients see little to no side effects. Potential side effects include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites.

We recommend staying upright for about four hours and skipping heavy exercise for the first day. To keep your rejuvenated appearance smooth year-round, most patients return for maintenance every three to four months.

Botox Results

You won’t see an instant change the moment the injections are finished. Botox work begins by temporarily blocking nerve signals and chemical signals to the forehead muscles and other targeted areas. Most people start noticing the muscles relax within three to five days, but the final, "settled" look takes a full two weeks to appear.

Results typically last between three and four months. Whether we are treating horizontal lines on the forehead or vertical bands in the neck, your individual metabolism will influence the timeline. Over time, many regular patients find that their muscles "learn" to stay relaxed, which can lead to even better results with consistent care.

How Much Does

BOTOX Cost

Frequently Asked Questions

The botulinum toxin works by interfering with the nervous system and nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. By blocking these signals, the skin above the muscle remains smooth.

Yes. Our goal is always natural-looking results. Because our team is trained in deep anatomy, we target the specific muscles causing wrinkles, like the lines between the eyebrows, while leaving the rest of your face free to express itself.

Botox addresses wrinkles caused by muscle movement, while dermal fillers restore lost volume in the skin. We often use them together to treat both fine lines and deeper folds.

While rare in clinical trials, some patients may experience mild, temporary flu-like symptoms or a headache after their first treatment session. These usually resolve quickly on their own.

Yes. In clinical trials and subsequent dermatologic surgery applications, Botox has been used to treat overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, cervical dystonia, and lower limb spasticity in both adults and pediatric patients. While botox has been used for non-cosmetic issues, at Avani Derm Spa we only focus on the aesthetic use of Botox.
